ABOUT OUR PRODUCT AND SERVICES

Welcome Friends,

The smokehouse doors are open wide with invitation allowing the aroma of Colonel Newsom's Aged Country Ham to enter your homes. Tucked away in the hills of Kentucky, Newsom's Old Mill Store recreates the ways of old-a tradition of service and quality, while featuring a product now considered a "lost art."

Since 1917, the Newsom family has maintained its same physical location in the rural town of Princeton. At one time, it was the only source for purchasing food items, garden seed and plants, and many other items for miles around. The historical setting of Newsom's Old Mill Store was the product of the Industrial Revolution. Dating to 1850, the building houses the retail store for Bill Newsom's Hams and other fine food products. Newsom's also occupies the adjacent Old Globe Tavern, built in 1838 and a thriving Main Street enterprise in the era when the Cherokee moved through Princeton with the Trail of Tears.

Having survived the many winds of change, Newsom's still stands as the symbol of a working tradition-heritage of tradition. Our fine, aged ham is known by many prominent connoisseurs of good taste, gaining its first acclaim by the Father of Gourmet Cooking, James Beard. The ham has been used by many fine chefs and count among the treasured archives, a letter from the late Julia Child to Col. Bill. In the modern arena, Newsom's Aged Ham reached further into the heritage of aged meats and was invited to participate in the Fifth World Congress of Dry Cured Hams and entered into a museum in Aracena, Spain. We consider our aged ham product an extension and representation of our authenticity and invite your visit to our country store of old, as well as your visit to our website which we hope you will find inviting. Thank you for your time and be sure to view our picture gallery to gain a flavor of what we are all about. We hope to be of service to you soon. Now......take a walk thru the past with us and view the remnants of the "lost art", Newsom's Aged Kentucky Country Hams.
