Light, rich, flaky and hand-made with pure butter and sugar, this pulled candy, better-known in our local community as "cream" candy, really does melt in your mouth. This is one of the most popular items in Newsom's Old Mill Store. And, it is a delicious after dinner compliment to our own Col. Bill Newsom's Aged Kentucky Country Ham. Locally, the homemade version of this candy is a team effort, requiring two candymakers to pull the concoction into a pliable form after the liquid is poured from a boiling pot onto a cold marble slab and begins to wax. Pulling cream candy is an art passed from generation to generation. The marble slabs are even handed down in family wills. "Mom" Blakeman's pulled candy was established in 1961 as a family business and remains family owned and operated. The pulled candy is offered in two sizes, 8 oz. or 14 oz. tubs. The 8 oz. tubs are $6.99 and the 14 oz. tubs are $9.49.
